Sarah’s Picks Week of 6.13.12

    Issues #1

Before Watchmen Silk Spectre (1/4) Darwyn Cooke, Amanda Connor.  Laurel Jane grows up fast at the hands of her mother.

Massive (Image) Brian Wood likes to write about big boats on water and political commentary. This has both. Can you save a planet that’s already doomed? If this is anything else like his work, and I’m thinking it is, this will be a dense and provoking.

Planetoid (Image) Ken Garing writes and draws this sci-fi soldier in a world of machinery parts. I’m digging the vibe.

Spider-Men (1/5) – The Amazing Spider-Man will meet the Ultimate Spider-Man in Marvel’s first universe crossing miniseries. Bendis and Sarah Pichelli. I like it!

Ongoing Titles

Conan the Barbarian #5 – The Argos Deception Part 2 Always awesome. Captured for his past crimes in Messantia, the Cimmerian faces public execution before a mob baying for his blood. But will he really lose his head-or is it all part of Belit’s plan?

Fantastic Four #607  – The team travel to Wakanda, which means the return of Black Panther to the pages of Fantastic Four. Their mission: what happens when the world completely runs out of Vibranium?

X-Men Legacy #268  –  Frenzy’s past revealed!

DC New 52 Issue # 10

Batman – The Court of Owls has attacked the Batman, his family, and the people responsible for Gotham City as it works today. After nine issues of terror, confusion, and stabbings, Batman is ready to go on the offensive.

Frankenstein: Agent of SHADE – New writer, MATT KINDT, of Mind MGMT! Haven’t read it yet but will get there soon!

Resurrection Man – Another fallen title from the New 52. September’s #0 issue will be the last.

Collections/Graphic .Novels

Batwoman Vol 1 – Hydrology  The New 52 releaunch didn’t disrupt Kate Kane’s history, but it’s irrelevant anyway. She’s always operated on her own and the book certainly stands apart from the rest.  J.H. Williams’ story spills onto the page like his colors and inks, drawing you in to it’s depths. The title is a fitting description

Birds of Prey Vol 1 – End Run  I loved Birds of Prey “before” and was pretty bummed about the end of that series. Gail Simone does a good job of giving the series new blood (I particularly love Starling) with beautiful, tough chicks righting some serious wrongs. This Birds of Prey is one of my favorite New 52 titles.

Daredevil, Mark Waid Vol 2 HC – Every issue, every time. Always.

Ultimate Spider-Man Vol 2 HC  – Bendis + Samnee.

Why Does Batman Carry Shark Repellent?  By Brian Cronin, author of Was Superman a Spy? brings the trivia.

Titus’ Additional

Green Lantern #10 – GL dropped off my list for a while, mostly because it was just too much to keep up with monthly.  Titus had been enthusiastic about this issue so I checked it out. Wow! Things are all mixed up!  Now I’ll go back to catch up on what I’ve missed.
