COMING UP NEXT with Martinez – 8/6

COMING UP NEXT! A look at what our resident opinionated blogger type, Martinez (Pie-Cast) has to say about this week’s upcoming releases!

How about that Guardians of the Galaxy huh? Go see it if you haven’t already.

This Week’s Picks of the Pull:

Black Widow #9 by Nathan Edmondson and Phil Noto

Punisher #9 by Nathan Edmondson and Mitch Gerads

Those of you who have been keeping up with these posts know how much I rant and rave about Black Widow and The Punisher. Well if you haven’t yet jumped on to the series yet, now is your chance. In these issues, Frank’s confrontation with Crossbones continues, and he crosses paths with Natasha who is continuing the hunt for her new foe. In my opinion these two fringe series deserve more recognition. They’re exactly what a solo title should be, and they continue to deliver the same exhilarating story telling every month.

Steven Universe #1 by Jeremy Sorese and Coleman Engle

Steven Universe is probably the most imaginative cartoon to come out since Adventure Time. Every episode is captivating, honest, and fun. Steven is a young boy who lives with The Crystal Gems, mystical guardians who protect humanity. Steven is the son of one of the greatest Crystal Gems to ever exist, and although he has a lot to live up to, right now he just wants to have fun. I’m hoping the comic will be able to capture the magic of the show. Fans of Sailor Moon and Adventure Time would do well to pick up this book and follow the series on TV.

Bunker TPB Vol. 1 by Joshua Hale Fialkov and Joe Infurani

I remember recommending this title when the first issue came out back in February. However, the first issues sold out before they were even released. Although you could probably get your hands on some second prints, I would recommend getting it in trade. The story is about five friends who find a underground bunker with instructions on how to prevent the end of the world. The creepy thing is, the bunker has their names on it, and the instructions say they’re the cause of the future apocalypse. I have a feeling it will read better when you have a good chunk of the story to get through. It’s also a story you’ll want to take your time to read.

The Rest of Martinez’s Pull for 8/6: Detective Comics #34, Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #5, Lazarus #10
