COMING UP NEXT! A look at what our resident opinionated blogger type, Martinez (Pie-Cast) has to say about this week’s upcoming releases!
It’s an Indie pick week!
Low #1 by Rick Remender & Greg Tocchini
Man, Remender sure likes to write some crazy sci-fi. From the man who wrote Fear Agent currently writing Black Science, this new comic puts us in the bottom of the ocean. Civilization now lives in shielded cities away from the radiation of the dying sun. I always try to pick up the first issue of a new Remember sci-fi book. Who knows, maybe this will fill my water-related apocalypse needs since The Wake is ending this week.
Outcast #2 by Robert Kirkman & Paul Azaceta
I’m not necessarily a horror fan. So when I picked up the first issue of Outcast, it was solely because of Kirkman’s name on the cover. That being said, Outcast #1 was intriguing. It’s more creepy than scary. There’s a strange dark premise wrapped with a veil of reality. Kirkman’s new book isn’t set in the apocalypse, it’s set in a sleepy town in West Virginia. There are no tangible enemies like psychopaths and zombies. Kyle, a depressed recluse, has something dark inside him and his past. We’re not told what it is, and it doesn’t seem like Kyle even knows what it is. There’s enough left unspoken in the first double-sized issue to keep you interested in picking up the next issue.
Fatale #24 by Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips
The Wake #10 by Scott Snyder & Sean Gordon Murphy
I figured a double entry was necessary here. This week marks the end of two of my favorite titles. These two were at the top of my stack every month. You’ve probably heard me recommending these more than a couple times at The Shop. Great story and fantastic art in both of them. I highly recommend you pick these up in the collected editions, whether they be hardcover or trade paperback, if you haven’t already. I’m sure The Wake will have a complete edition, collecting all 10 issues soon. As for Fatale, there are already 4 trades out with the final fifth one due in September.
