COMING UP NEXT with Martinez – 10/8/14

A look at what our resident opinionated blogger type, Martinez (Pie-Cast) has to say about this week’s upcoming releases.

This Week’s Picks of the Pulls:

batman35coverBatman #35 by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo

Well folks, here we go again. Issue #35 marks the beginning of a new story arc in the main Batman title. “Endgame” will follow the events that have been happening in Batman Eternal, so if you’ve been reading that you’ll be able to follow right along. “Endgame” will be told in 6 issues, which seems short when you compared to “Zero Year”, but I’m not complaining… AT ALL. I’m not really sure what to expect from this arc. I haven’t been reading Eternal so I’m coming in with no background knowledge of what’s been going on with Batman during the telling of “Zero Year”.

4143774-05 Dead Letters #5 by Christopher Sebela and Chris Visions

I wrote about this book back when it first came out. I thought it was an intriguing premise with fresh new creators. To be honest, this has been one of the books that I’m rarely disappointed with. The creators have done a good job at keeping the story original and interesting. It’s fun, it’s dark, it’s a little out there. This issue begins a new arc and I recommend that folks who are into crime and weird stuff pick it up. The first trade is out as well and I believe we still have it available at The Shop.

WYTCHES_1_CoverWytches #1 by Scott Snyder and Jock

With October off and running, it’s a good idea to pick up a good horror book to get into the Halloween spirit. Grab some pumpkin beer or coffee and sit your butt down to read a comic that promises to creep you out more that a little bit. Story revolves around a family who moves to a new town after tragedy strikes and it changes their daughter for the worse. As the parents try to help their daughter deal with anxiety, she begins to see strange visions…or are they? Snyder is known to write a good horror book. As confusing as The Wake was, I feel this book will opt for a more contemporary feel. Think Stephen King, or even the newest Robert Kirkman comic, Outcast. This is a book you’ll want to read alone in a dimly lit room.
